| 概要 | This study compared about 3 years of aerobic aquatic versus land-based exercise in older adults, and then examined 1 year of COVID‑19–related detraining. Participants (water group n=20, land group n=17) trained twice weekly for 45 minutes; skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) and fitness were measured six times during training and once a year after stopping. SMI decreased over the 3 years in both groups, but after detraining only the land group showed a further significant decline, while the water group maintained SMI and grip strength. These findings suggest long‑term water‑based exercise may better help older adults maintain muscle mass and function during periods without training than land‑based exercise. |
