概要 | The present study used a quasi-experimental design to look for a potential test mode eff ect on English vocabulary quizzes for a required English communication course in a Japanese university. In this study, two sections of the same course took traditional paper-based vocabulary quizzes at the start of every class while one section took the same quizzes on their smartphones through a course shell made on the LMS Canvas. Scores were collected and compared from two regular vocabulary quizzes (n=93, n=102). In addition, a review quiz (n=102) was also administered in order to check for a possible eff ect the testing mode would have on recall of previously tested material. One-way ANOVA tests found no statistically significant differences between any of the groups on any of the measures. The discussion highlights the need for practitioners to consider the potential for unintended consequences that can occur when technology is unevenly integrated among students within the same program. |
