概要 | Peer-to-Peer (P2P) product rental is expanding rapidly across a wide range of product categories, driven by the development of mobile communication technologies and online platforms. This is leading to significant changes in consumer behavior and thereby, forcing manufacturers to revise their marketing and management strategies for producing goods. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the rental market on consumer behavior and firm strategies, which may vary according to the Product Use Intensity (PUI) of each product category. A stylized model is considered in which the market is characterized by PUI. A single-product firm can decide its selling price and product quality. Consumers can choose to become owners, renters or neither, depending on their own valuation type. The results show that, when PUI is medium-high, the price-increasing effect and the sales-decreasing effect balance each other out, leading to the highest profit increase. |
